5-Stand Sporting Clays Range

Our 5-Stand Sporting Clays has 6 fixed traps and one “wobble” trap with each trap holding over 300 clay birds.  The range is open to members and their guests, as well as non-members.  The range is open all year round and may be used by members at any time (if a staff person is needed to pull/score, the member must call 24 hours in advance).  Non-members must call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule use (a staff person must always be used to pull for non-members).   The cost/round (25 targets) for members is $7.50 (10 rounds are included) and $12.50 for non-members.

Five-Stand Sporting Clays have 5 different “stands” (duh) from which each shooter shoots five shells for a total of 25 shots (a box of shells) per round. When a full complement of shooters (5 shooters) are participating, shooter #1 in station 1 shoots one shot at a clay target thrown from a given  trap. Then, shooter #2 in station 2 shoots one shot at a target thrown from the same trap. The next station shoots, etc. until the shooter in station 5 has shot. Then it goes back to station 1, however this time shooter #1 shoots 2 shots at 2 targets thrown simultaneously from 2 different traps. Then shooter # 2 does the same, etc. The next time (the 3rd round of shooting at that station) is just like the second round (2 shots at 2 targets) except 2 different traps are used. After this is completed, the shooters in stations 1-4 move one station to the right with the shooter in station 5 moving to station 1 and it starts all over again until every shooter has shot 5 shots from every station. (Note: Shooter #1 is always the first one to shoot, no matter what station they are in.) The angle the target is traveling changes from station to station making every shot just a little bit different.

Tips From Dr. Bob:

Now if that isn’t difficult enough, we can change the trap(s) that being thrown from station to station, so that a shooter in station #1 shoots clay targets thrown from a certain set of traps in a certain configuration - but station #2 has a different configuration - as well as station 3 being different from either of the others, etc. It can become very difficult.

Other approaches can also be taken. Instead of throwing from different traps, we have a wobble trap that randomly throws the clay target at different angles up and out every time. In this situation, each shooter at each station only shoots one shot every round, and 5 rounds are shot at every station.

Another game we play is called “shoot-till-you-lose”. In this game, 2 individual shooters are matched up against each other. Each shooter shoots 6 total shots, shooting a double 3 times. The one with the highest score shoots again against another challenger. If both shooters hit all 6 clay targets, a sudden death period begins with the first person missing being eliminated (the champion must always shoot first - if he misses the first bird, the challenger automatically wins without having to shoot!)

There are lots of other shooting games that can be played.   We hope you come out and enjoy shooting them all with us.
